Training & certification
What it takes to become a blast mitigation coating expert.
Experts are made on the job, not on message boards. Here is what you will learn, how ArmorThane certifies you, and the habits that set blast-capable applicators apart.

The curriculum
Eight skills every blast mitigation applicator masters
ArmorThane training covers material chemistry, safety and surface prep, spray technique, equipment care and troubleshooting, and ends with ArmorThane applicator certification15. Blast work builds on that foundation.
- 01
Blast basics
- Overpressure, impulse and standoff
- Why walls fail and what fragments do
- Where coatings fit in a protective design
- 02
Polyurea chemistry
- A and B sides, ratio and temperature
- Pure polyurea vs. hybrids
- Storage, shelf life and batch tracking
- 03
Safety
- Isocyanate exposure and supplied-air respirators
- Suits, gloves and eye protection
- Working on secure and active sites
- 04
Surface preparation
- Concrete and masonry profile and cleanliness
- Moisture testing before you spray
- Steel blast cleaning and profile
- 05
Spray technique
- Pass pattern and overlap
- Building thickness without runs or pinholes
- Corners, edges and terminations
- 06
Blast detailing
- Overlap onto floors, ceilings and frames
- Openings and penetrations
- Which face to coat, and why
- 07
Quality control
- Wet and dry thickness measurement
- Pull-off adhesion testing
- Dew point, substrate and ambient checks
- 08
Documentation
- Daily logs and batch numbers
- Photo records and test results
- Submittals engineers and owners trust
Certification path
From trainee to the expert engineers ask for
- 1
ArmorThane certification
Hands-on training at your location on your own rig. You finish as a certified ArmorThane applicator15.
- 2
Field hours
Spray paying work, build a photo and test-record portfolio, and lean on the 24/7 tech line15.
- 3
Industry credentials
Add coating inspection and application credentials from groups such as AMPP, and polyurea-specific education from industry associations.
- 4
Project qualifications
Meet site security, safety and documentation requirements on government and industrial projects.
The expert's kit
Instruments that prove the work
The research is blunt: results are sensitive to "inconsistencies in polymer thickness or continuity"1. Experts measure, record and can show the engineer exactly what went on the wall.
Wet film gauge
Check thickness as you spray, pass by pass.
Ultrasonic thickness gauge
Measure cured coating thickness on concrete without cutting it.
Pull-off adhesion tester
Verify bond on test patches before and after the job.
Hygrometer & surface thermometer
Log dew point, humidity and substrate temperature.
Moisture meter
Confirm concrete is dry enough to coat.
Daily log
Batch numbers, conditions, readings and photos for every lift.
